About Our Reading Levels

Our books have been independently evaluated and leveled by the major literacy education organizations: Fountas & Pinnell, the Reading Recovery® Council of North America, Accelerated Reader™ (AR), Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA), and Lexile® Framework for Reading. The majority of our titles are also included on the Reading Recovery® Approved Book List.

In placing a text along a gradient of difficulty, many factors are considered and reading professionals do not always agree on the level for a book. In order to be as accurate as possible and encompass evaluations from different recognized experts, we have included multiple levels for some titles in the detailed information for each book. Levels are approximate indicators of text difficulty and intended to serve as a guide. Teachers should use their own experience and observations to provide a successful reading experience for each individual student.
